Fall of Duty

I can't really remember a season when the density of quality games has been as great as what we're facing now. Peter Moore referred to the Xbox's fall lineup as the "perfect storm", but Microsoft's is not the only cloud in the sky. There are A-class games coming out on a number of platforms. Financial investments aside, the spending of time will be immense. I imagine the upcoming crop of games would last me all the way until summer. Consider that I spent 5 weeks on BioShock before I wrapped up all the achievements and you'll see what I mean.

I got Halo 3, to the credit of the massive marketing campaign. It's a good game, but the advertising had led me to believe that the entire history of human civilization has strived purely to bring about the cosmic orgasm that is Halo the third. In that respect, I must say I don't get the hype. In terms of single player presentation and execution, I think BioShock does it better. And even in its beta form, I feel Call of Duty 4 is a more rich multiplayer experience. If there must be an American equivalent to the Japanese Dragon Quest phenomenon, I can't fully understand why Halo should be it. That's just me, I guess.
