I've looked upon the cosplaying community much as a deep-sea diver would look upon an undersea community of mer-people. They're a fascinating society, but one that I'll never be a part of, nor will I ever be able to completely understand their ways. When they're at their best, cosplayers can garner a "well, that's pretty cool" reaction from me as they successfully translate characters from the page or TV screen to the real world. On the opposite end of the spectrum, though, there are endless possibilities to conjur unadulterated horror (go Google "man-faye").
